Image
Cameroon's telecommunications regulator, the Agence de RĂ©gulation des TĂ©lĂ©communications (ART) , recently imposed a combined CFA 2.6 billion fine on Orange Cameroun and MTN Cameroon due to failures in meeting contractual service obligations. This decision sends a strong message about enforcing quality standards and protecting consumer rights.  Findings from ART’s Inspections Between April and May 2024, ART teams conducted more than 6,000 connectivity tests across major corridors—such as YaoundĂ©–Mbalmayo–Ebolowa–KyĂ©-Ossi and YaoundĂ©–Ebolowa–Mintom–Ntam—as well as urban centers like YaoundĂ© and Douala. The results revealed: Orange Cameroun had a 3G coverage rate of just 56.2%, far below the contractual minimum of 77%. Additionally, in Douala, 29.5% of calls were blocked, against a 2% allowable threshold. MTN Cameroon recorded 86% coverage on strategic routes (versus 100% required) and 87.06% in Douala, also below required standards.  ART also flagged non-transparent pricing, in...

In today’s society, the concern over the behavior of young people is growing louder. Many parents, teachers, religious leaders, and community elders constantly ask: " What has gone wrong with this generation?" It is undeniable that many children and teenagers in our time are becoming increasingly wayward—displaying attitudes and behaviors that reflect moral decay, indiscipline, and disregard for values. From disrespect for elders, sexual immorality, drug and alcohol abuse, violence, theft, to juvenile delinquency , these issues are no longer isolated cases but rather common occurrences. But while we often criticize the youth for their misconduct, we fail to examine the most important aspect: the foundation. A child’s upbringing is the root of their character. And when the root is weak or corrupt, the fruit will not be healthy. Understanding the Waywardness of Today’s Youth 1. Lack of Discipline at Home Many children today grow up in homes where discipline is absent or poorl...

"Beyond Blame: A Call To Action For Cameroon's Youth" - Prince K. NFOR

As we navigate the complexities of the current anglophone crisis in Cameroon, it's easy to get caught up in the challenges and uncertainties that surround us. However, as a self-improvement activist, youth empowerment advocate, and motivational speaker, I believe it's essential to shift our focus towards solutions and personal responsibility. As the great Nelson Mandela once said, "It always seems impossible until it's done." This sentiment resonates deeply when we consider the formidable challenges before us, urging us to look beyond the immediate difficulties. In many of our colleges, universities and societies, I have witnessed a concerning trend: youngsters lacking focus, motivation, and a clear sense of direction. Many are more interested in distractions than self growth and academic pursuits, and their future seems uncertain. This lack of focus and determination is a recipe for stagnation, and it's alarming to see many young Cameroonians giving up on t...
